Every year 18th of April is celebrated as the World Heritage Day but let me tell you that this isn’t actually the name. This day is actually called The International Day for Monument and Sites and it was established in the year 1982 by ICOMOS or the International Council for Monuments and Sites.
The basic purpose behind the foundation of this organization was to protect locations that are considered valuable. Experts from different fields like engineering, architecture, archeology, art, etc. came together to form this organization and help preserve important cultural monuments and beautiful sites all over the world. There are over 10,000 individuals from 400 different countries involved in this organization and more are to join in the future.
So, on this day, we should all take the pledge to protect and preserve heritage sites, monuments and important locations wherever we may be. This will ensure that future generations would also get to witness the marvels of the past and learn about the culture and heritage that played a key role in shaping the future of the region.
